CamLab is the collaborative practice of Anna Mayer and Jemima Wyman begun at CalArts in 2005. The duo’s social practice work and relational object-making cultivate embodiment and intimacy, exposing the political implications of both. Its feminist and collective practice models a horizontal and intimate relationship, which they believe is necessary in a culture that devalues compassion, communal concerns, the mental health of women and radical care. The duo’s sculptural, video-based, and social practice work has been exhibited internationally, as well as extensively in their hometown of Los Angeles at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the Hammer Museum, the Armory Center for the Arts and the Weingart Gallery at Occidental College. In 2018 CamLab enacted its participatory project, Reguarding Room at the University of Houston (TX).
